CAGs have been set up on the Wandsworth, Tooting and Roehampton sites. It is anticipated that a group will be formed on the Merton site later this year. During the summer term the groups held their second meetings. This report summarises the cross-site topics as well as those specific to each site. These topics have been grouped under 4 headings Campus, Curriculum, Community and Communications. Campus Green travel arrangements The Corporations Green Travel Plan needs to be monitored Action: Further consultation needed on: Walk to work scheme Annual pass subsidy for public transport Improved cycle storage Shower and changing facilities on the Tooting site Review of the cycle to work staff purchase policy Car pool /car sharing scheme Review of the subsidised car parking arrangements for the Wandsworth site. ICT/ Energy Use There are significant potential savings from developing a more sustainable approach to ICT use. Action: Derek Funnell, Head of CTS, has agreed to provide an update on progress relating to this. Some of the points noted were: The power-down arrangements at 9.45pm do not work if students or staff are still logged on. Action: A programme on the server that over-rides this would be the most effective solution. Until this is introduced a policy of raising staff/student awareness should be implemented Printing Need to reduce the amount of paper used. Action: Double-sided printing default options and software (currently being piloted) Waste and Recycling Areas for improvements have been identified. There is uncertainty about whether recycled material ends up in landfill. In Tooting there is no recycling facility in student areas. In staff areas it is only paper. In Wandsworth there are issues related to information, location and types of facility. There are a range of links that we can use to help develop a Waste/recycling Strategy. Members of the groups have already identified a number of links. Action: Audit required Staff have offered to assist in carrying this out. LSE Interns could also be considered (Cost 10 per day to provide capacity to support an initiative on this) Roof Garden Project Tooting and Roehampton have a lot of flat roof space that could be utilised. Action: Members of the CAG have indicated a willingness to do a feasibility report. Curriculum The Education for Sustainable Development Working Group met for the 2nd time on April 30th. It was agreed that all Curriculum Managers would carry out an ESD audit of their programme areas during the summer term. This would identify potential changes that could be introduced during the 2010-11 academic year. Action: To assist this process the CAGs identified the following: Provide a summary of ICT resources Carry out a publication search Draft materials in ESOL Level 1 and 2 / Childcare Run a session on staff CPD in July Community Tooting Carnival Staff on the Tooting and Wandsworth sites have volunteered to help with a float at the event on July 4th. Action: Meeting to be arranged with Jade from Marketing before the next Carnival Planning workshop on June 13th Roehampton University Link up with the bio-diversity project and a meeting with the University Environment Manager. Action: Opportunity for buddy scheme with Roehampton and Kingston Environment Management Teams Wandsworth Council STC invited on to the Strategic Partnership. Action: Gail Walker to liaise with the Council Cabinet Member Communications The STC CAGs are the first to be set up as part of the national ӣ Climate Solidarity Project. They represent an opportunity to develop an environmental partnership between employers and staff and to give real meaning to the much quoted need for employee engagement on sustainable development. In order to promote the work of the college in this area it will be necessary to communicate a positive message. Action: The Environment Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC) has requested a Case Study from STC. A draft has been written up. Production of a short DVD in the Autumn highlighting the work and achievements of the project. And a final C Conclusion This has been an encouraging start and we are grateful to STC for supporting the project. We are now at the point where it will be important to show progress on some of the issues identified. We dont expect everything to be achieved in one term. However, if the enthusiasm for this type of staff involvement is to be maintained then 2010-11 needs to be the year when clear sustainable targets need to be set and resources made available to achieve them. Many of these topics require very little finance and those that do should be covered by a reduction in energy and waste management costs. ,.56$ & g % > A z { ョqbSCbh`hrE5CJOJQJaJh`hCJOJQJaJh`hrECJOJQJaJh`hW5CJOJQJaJh`h-sCJOJQJaJh`hWCJOJQJaJh`hLnCJOJQJaJh`h uCJOJQJaJh`h:m 5CJOJQJaJ"h`h u5CJH*OJQJaJh`h "5CJOJQJaJh`h u5CJOJQJaJ67% & % + _ | YZgdrE & Fgdj6 & Fgdhgdh & Fgdh & FgdW & FgdrEgd u$a$gd u + : B Znop4:Nblruⳤ⤳vӅvvvvgh`h~CJOJQJaJh`hzCJOJQJaJh`hz5CJOJQJaJh`hrECJOJQJaJh`hj6CJOJQJaJh`hrE5CJOJQJaJh`hh5CJOJQJaJh`h}@CJOJQJaJh`hhCJOJQJaJh`hWCJOJQJaJ"*Ml Dgdm & Fgd-sgd-s & Fgdgd & Fgd~gdz & Fgdzgd~ QY )*EGIPбscscssTsDh`hCJH*OJQJaJh`hhCJOJQJaJh`h~CJH*OJQJaJh`h~CJOJQJaJh`hz5CJOJQJaJh`h "5CJOJQJaJh`hLnCJOJQJaJh`hLn5CJOJQJaJh`h}@CJOJQJaJh`hCJOJQJaJh`h5CJOJQJaJh`h~5CJOJQJaJPXx/67TU 'C²ueuVVVuGh`hmCJOJQJaJh`h "CJOJQJaJh`h "5CJOJQJaJh`h-s5CJOJQJaJh`h-sCJOJQJaJh`h3CJOJQJaJh`h}@CJOJQJaJh`h}@5CJOJQJaJh`h5CJOJQJaJh`hCJH*OJQJaJh`h^,CJOJQJaJh`hCJOJQJaJCD.MѲѣh`h}@CJOJQJaJh`h "CJOJQJaJh`hm5CJOJQJaJh`hmCJOJQJaJh`h-sCJOJQJaJh`h-s5CJOJQJaJ ,1h.
